C.R. Maxton

The DuQuoin Fire and Police Departments will hold a walk through Friday evening at 5:45 p.m. and have an honor guard at the funeral home for C.R. (Scotty) Maxton, 89, of South Washington St. in DuQuoin, who passed away at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at Marshall Browning Hospital.
Mr. Maxton retired from Maxton South Side Shell in 1975 and was associated with Maxton Funeral Home for over 30 years.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Belt Firefighters Assn., DuQuoin Rotary (VIP 1984) and was a retired Volunteer Fireman.
He was born September 10, 1910 at DuQuoin, the son of Rev. Wm. McAra and Helen Burns (Watson) Maxton.  He married A. Arline Davison on June 29, 1932 at DuQuoin.  He was a lifetime resident of DuQuoin.
Surviving are his wife, A. Arline Maxton of DuQuoin; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis (George) Hershey of Menifee, CA and Ms. Luana Maxton of DuQuoin; two sons, Jerry (Jahat) Maxton of DuQuoin and Frank Maxton of DuQuoin; one brother, Rev. David B. Maxton of Waverly, OH; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters,  two sons and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Charles Hoekstra officiating.  Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery in DuQuoin.
Friends were able to call Friday at 5 p.m. at Maxton Funeral Chapel and there was visitation at the church from 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday.
Memorials may be made to any of the various funds of First Presbyterian Church.
